The International Tundra Experiment (ITEX) site at CBAWO was established in 2008 as part of the ongoing long-term international study examining the response of plant growth to increased temperatures. The site consists of 8 replicate plots, each consisting of 4 vegetation treatments. The ITEX site at CBAWO is unique in that snow fences were added to each replicate to enhance snowfall accumulation in specific sites, adding an extra variable of increased snow depth to the vegetation treatments.

Studies within the ITEX site at CBAWO have looked at changes to phenology, carbon dioxide exchange, greenhouse gas release, and soil nutrient availability.
